Important notice for users of timber treatment products containing carbendazim

New instructions for using: Hylite timber preservative, Hylite 80 anti-sapstain and Antiblu cc concentrate timber fungicide

The APVMA has been undertaking a review of the fungicide carbendazim. As part of this review it has been determined that the current label instructions for products containing carbendazim were inadequate.

Accordingly the APVMA has issued new instructions for carbendazim products that must be supplied with all new product from the manufacturer.

See the revised instructions for timber protection products containing carbendazim (PDF, 39kb)

For timber products the new instructions include revision of the labels to include the label heading for Schedule 7 and an extension of the existing health warnings on the labels to include male infertility in laboratory animals.

There are no changes to the permitted uses, safety directions or personal protective equipment required for the use of timber treatment products containing carbendazim.

The inclusion of carbendazim in Schedule 7 may impose greater requirements for training and record keeping on users of carbendazim products, depending on State/Territory legislation.

Existing stocks may be used according to their current label instructions for a period of six months only after the suspension, ending 25 July 2010.

This suspension is a consequence of the ongoing review of carbendazim and the associated reconsideration of the poisons schedule for carbendazim. This review is continuing and there may be further changes to the uses proposed as part of the Preliminary Review Findings when they are published.

All products supplied by the manufacturer after 25 July 2010 should bear a copy of these instructions attached to the product.
