Call for Public Submissions on an Application for the Registration of the Bollgard II Genes for use in Genetically Modified Cotton
Interested individuals and organisations are invited to make written submissions to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) on whether or not an application should be granted for the registration of the new product, BOLLGARD II COTTON EVENT.
The
product contains the active constituent Bacillus thuringiensis Var.
kurstaki delta-endotoxins as produced by the Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab genes
and their controlling sequences. It is intended for the control of cotton
bollworm and native budworm in cotton.
The APVMA has completed its evaluation of an application from Monsanto
Australia Limited for this new product for use in genetically modified
cotton and proposes to determine that BOLLGARD II COTTON EVENT meets
appropriate health and environmental safety standards as well as trade
and efficacy requirements.
The
public
release summary of the APVMA evaluation of BOLLGARD II COTTON EVENT
can be obtained.
